Firstly,I should state that I'm not really a football fan and only watch a game when Ireland are playing or big games in the World Cup.
So last night I went to a pub with some friends to watch the game. I'd missed the first leg but had seen Ireland get so close to beating Italy. That was a hard pill to swallow, but nothing compared to the injustice of Ireland V France last night. All day I've been listening to national radio stations and watching sky sports news and bbc news and it's the biggest story today. And rightly so. We're enraged and want justice.
For anyone that didn't see the game (and maybe/probably doesn't care) you can check the Gaelic football-esque manouvre here:
[link] And not only that but there was two French players offside when the kick was taken. Sadly, that caused many of the Irish defenders to shutdown because they expected the whistle to be blown. Shay Given practically ran off his line over to the referee before the goal had even settled in the back of the net.
Then, only minutes later a French player handballed again and got away with it. He chested it it and then used his fingertips to keep it from bouncing away. For the entire game Robbie Keane was getting fouled everytime he got a chance near goal. Then when Robbie Keane shouldered the ball it was called a handball and a free was given to France.
People are saying the ref did a ood job except for the Henry incident but I think he was completely biased to let the big team through. Fifa's fair play policy is a farce. I've always thought football was a rubbish sport solely because the complete filth and lack of sportsmanship on the pitch. Diving, dirty tackles, and of course blatant handling of the ball. And it's completely accepted and encouraged it would seem as the France v Ireland game would seem. It looked like France had been told to win it by any means necessary and that the ref wouldn't call most things. It's like something outta Mean Machine. In othere sports players are extremely careful to be fair and keep their reveared sport honourable. In snooker they'd confess to touching a ball or fouling and wouldn't even need to be asked, tennis, golf, the list goes on. But in football I haven't seen a game in years that hasn't had smeone dive, go for a player in tackle or other things. So I stopped watching. Even in games coming out now you can dive on purpose or do an illegal tackle.
It fucking bullshit. We were robbed and Fifa and the France team should be ashamed for the way they played. Our Government and head of our football association are planing to take action of someking against Fifa. We're looking for the French Football Association to agree to play a replay on nuetral ground because FIFA are refusing to listen. If France agree to play a replay at least we'd have some chance. It's only fair. Fair play it's called in Fifa's rules.
Anyway, it's not over yet. More to come I'm sure.
